In 2016, GISonLine carried out a research and development project for PKP Energetyka S.A., in which an inventory of the newly renovated section of the MV network was carried out (20 km along the Podłęże-Bochnia railway line).
As part of the project we prepared, with the use of drones, an very high resolution orthophotomap (1 cm/pixel), a Digital Surface Model and a point cloud for 3D area visualisation.
Thanks to the positive research results our client became interested in the use of drones in the power industry. Materials developed during the project were used in a web-application prepared for PKPE S.A. as one of the avaliable base maps.
Based on the results of additional flights and verification of the client’s needs, a comprehensive report was produced on the suitability of UAV use for maintaining and operating network assets and supporting key business processes. The development of solutions that allow the methodical and comprehensive collection of information is necessary for the data collected to be of high quality and available in the shortest possible time to a wide range of recipients.
Two different types of UAV systems were used during the work; a Feniks airplane system and a Gryf Multi-Rotor system. Both systems were equipped with high-resolution cameras.
